BLKOUT is a Community Benefit Society — owned by its members, governed by Black queer men. This week we’re introducing the board that will steer this cooperative into its next chapter.
Every function works in pairs. No one governs alone. Each pair is building a wider advisory group — bringing members with relevant skills closer to the work and creating a pipeline for future board candidates.
Leadership
Peter chairs the board. Lanre serves as Secretary and Vice-Chair. Between them, they hold the structure — agendas, minutes, accountability — that turns good intentions into governance.
Community
Nathan and Jean-Eric lead on community engagement. Nathan has been part of BLKOUT for years. Jean-Eric brings connections across London’s Black queer networks. Their job: make sure the board hears the community, not just its own echo.
Digital
Lloyd and Reuben lead on digital infrastructure. Reuben is also one of the commissioned writers for Ivor’s Compass — so he knows firsthand what the platform needs to deliver. Lloyd brings visibility and advocacy.
Finance — We Need You
Every other function has a pair. Finance doesn’t — yet. We’re looking for two people comfortable with numbers, budgets, and the questions that keep a small organisation honest. No formal qualifications needed. Just care, commitment, and a willingness to work as a pair. Get in touch.
Rob — Managing Editor
I founded BLKOUT. The board holds me accountable. That’s how it should be.
